Matthew 7:24-27 (ESV)
“Everyone then who hears these words of mind and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”
I was able to interview one of our community members, Lindsay, and today I want to share with you some of how God is working in her business.
She shared first with me how she, like many of us start off the new year reading their Bibles. As she was reading and came across Matthew 7, she read the story of the wise and foolish builders, one who built their house on the sand, and the other who built their house on the rock. Lindsay noticed that both builders heard the teaching, but only one of them put the teaching into practice.
This got her to thinking about the difference between hearing and hearing and putting into practice. I’m sure like many of us who have heard this story of the wise and foolish builders before thought of the story as one person who didn’t hear the good news and built their house on sand, and one did hear the news and built their house on the rock.
But that is not what happened.
Both builders heard the word, but only one put them into practice. Both physically heard the sound, but only one got up and got to work. There is another step between hearing the sound of God speaking and the action of putting it into practice. This is the step of listening where you focus on what you are hearing, which leads to action.
